An important early step in increasing the diversity of your organisation is to develop an equity and inclusion policy, which an also be known by other names such as an equity action policy, or a diversity policy. Your policy should reflect the core values of your organisation, set out your goals, such as diversity targets, and your commitment to implementing a strategy to achieve them. It must be endorsed by your leadership.
Look over policy templates and the policies of other arts organisations to see how others have tackled the problem. Review the process used by others to establish a policy, such as Americans for the Arts. Consult within your organisation, communities and networks to refine your policy goals.
