CALD: Why some say this label is failing Australians

Discussion of the CALD label (culturally and linguistically diverse) used in Australia (like BAME: Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic) which seek to to bundle disparate people together just because they are different to the majority identity. The Diversity Council of Australia is trialing a new acronym: CARM (culturally and racially marginalised) to reflect the experience of being raciliased.

Colombia’s Corporación Afrocolombiana Son Batá

Son Batá runs music and dance workshops of Afro-Colombian and urban origin, such as hip hop, rap and salsa to strengthen the cultural identity of the Afro population in Colombia (Medellín) where racism and systematic discriminations are rife.

Son Batá works in school to empower the youth of Comuna 13 to help them escape the violence and poverty around them, foster cultural pride and provide pathways into arts careers, including performance and cultural tour guiding opportunities.
