Audit your program

The best way to assess whether your program emphasises one culture over others is to conduct an audit. Many organisations aim for population parity in their representations.

How do I do it?

The simplest way to audit your program is to make a list of all the elements of your current and previous programs or commissions and note the diversity represented. Items to track may include people involved, especially key creatives, whether they are in leadership positions, how much they are paid, the stories told, or the aesthetic invoked.

Another layer of auditing is to look into how diverse people are represented, such as whether they are the main focus of a story, whether their culture impacts on their depiction or characterisation (rather than being interchangeable with someone from another culture), and whether there are stereotypes involved in their depiction.
