Culture Change Toolkit: How to develop diverse leadership
Discussion of how to support future leaders. Outline of how to develop a mentorship program.
An inclusive leader is a leader who fosters an environment where all opinions and ideas are valued and respected, regardless of their background or characteristics. This is done through an ability to relate to a diversity of people and perspectives, which can be achieved through training, education and skills development.
An inclusive leader believes that diversity can improve organisational performance, and takes active steps to learn about their own and others’ identities. This should go beyond surface-level learning and relationships – instead, it is more effective to try and really understand your team as well as the community you serve. This can contribute to the development of teams and networks in which a diversity of people feel they belong and are valued and respected.
