Ultimately the purpose of your evaluation is to determine if you have met the diversity goals you set for your organisation. If you have set up a strong evaluation framework, your indicators will provide a set of meaningful numbers which you can compare over time to see if change has occurred.
A good approach is to gather data before you take any action on your equity and inclusion strategy. Then gather the same data at regular intervals after you begin your interventions. Compare the data with your previous results to see changes over time – qualitative data may need to be converted into measures, eg by coding it.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to show progress towards your goals. If your results are not as good as hoped, it’s time to rethink your strategy. What has worked? What hasn’t? And why? What issues have come up that have affected progress against your goals? What can you do about them? Make adjustments and reallocate resources to improve the results.
You can convert the results of your evaluation into another form to give it more creative impact – eg an infographic, film, comic art, social media tiles, performance or visual representation. Whether you’ve done well, or could do better, this information is a powerful tool to demonstrate your commitment to funders, audiences and the general population.
