Ensure cultural safety

Understanding cultural safety is essential in mitigating situations where individuals from marginalised communities feel unsafe or are exploited for their cultural knowledge.

Before starting a collaboration or community-based project, ask if the aims, processes and assumptions of your own organisation (and the project itself) align with the principles of taking action on cultural safety.

How do we address culturally unsafe practices? How do we ensure there is ‘no assault, challenge or denial of identity and experience’?

Only when everyone in the organisation examines their approaches and takes responsibility for cultural safety, will we have shared respect, shared meaning and shared knowledge.
