Commissioning for Diversity and Inclusion Guidelines

As the nation's leading public broadcaster, we have a responsibility to reach and remain relevant to all Australians and to look and sound like contemporary Australia. To achieve this we must ensure that the content we commission contributes to increasing the participation of diverse talent, on and off screen. The Commissioning for Diversity and Inclusion Guidelines for screen content place diversity and inclusion at the heart of our planning, commissioning and content making processes.

The Guidelines set out options for how you can demonstrate representation on screen and off screen in your production team and crew, and across all content types.

Step 1 - Diversity and Inclusion Plan

Following discussions with your ABC commissioning team, the Diversity and Inclusion Plan captures your intention for representation in your content on screen and in key creative and production team roles off screen. Please complete the ABC Diversity and Inclusion Plan. You will be emailed a summary document to submit to your content commissioning team for the Content Business Review deadline, and you can download a PDF of your answers after you submit. See Example Questions as a guide.

Step 2 - On and Off Screen Diversity Portrayal Form.

On submission of your completed program you are required to submit an ABC On and Off Screen Diversity Portrayal Form as part of your contracted deliverables. This form has been established to allow the ABC to collect, store, use and disclose publicly the levels of diversity on and off screen on a de-identified basis.
